Comprehensive Rodent Exclusion Techniques
Keeping your home rodent-free requires a proactive approach. Rodents can cause significant damage and pose health risks, making it essential to take preventive measures. Regular inspections and maintenance are essential to ensure the continued effectiveness of rodent exclusion measures. By taking proactive steps to seal entry points and eliminate attractants, you can significantly reduce the risk of rodents entering your home.
Here are five effective steps we’ll take to help you protect your home from unwanted pests.
- 1. Inspect the Exterior
-
- Thoroughly inspect the exterior of your home to identify potential entry points for rodents.
- Look for gaps, cracks, holes, and openings in the foundation, walls, roof, and around windows and doors.
- 2. Seal Entry Points
-
- Use weather-resistant sealant to fill gaps and cracks in the foundation, siding, and other exterior surfaces.
- Repair or replace damaged screens on vents.
- Ensure that doors and windows close tightly, and install door sweeps to seal gaps at the bottom of doors if needed.
- 3. Secure Attic Access
-
- Check the soffits for any openings or gaps in the overhang.
- Cover attic openings with metal mesh or hardware cloth.
- Refer large soffit repairs to a siding repair company.
- 4. Install Rodent-Proofing Devices
-
- Cover vents and other openings with mesh or hardware cloth.
- Install door sweeps and rodent-proof materials around utility entry points.
- 5. Use Traps and Baits Strategically
-
- Use traps and baits as part of an integrated pest management plan.
- Focus on prevention rather than relying solely on reactive measures.
Does Your Home Qualify for Rodent Exclusion Service?
Some homes may not qualify for rodent proofing due to various factors that make it either impossible or beyond our scope of service. Your Akita inspector will assess and determine if your home qualifies for the program.
If it does, the inspector will provide a detailed list of repairs and exclusion methods, including pricing and guarantee information.
Homes that automatically do not qualify include:
- Mobile homes
- Attached row homes
- Inaccessible crawlspaces
- Homes with rubble foundation walls
In certain cases, a home might be eligible for rodent proofing treatment but without a guarantee.
Greg did an awesome job. We have been a bit traumatized finding mice in our house but he explained everything thoroughly from how they could be getting in to all the steps he was taking to help cure the problem. He didn’t make me feel like I was being dramatic and answered every question with kindness and patience. Greg and Akita are an honest company and I’m really glad we chose them.
