Mosquitoes are a major nuisance and are a potentially disease-carrying pest in Central and Southeastern PA. We have more than 60 species of mosquitoes in Pennsylvania.
How To Reduce Mosquito Numbers on Your Property
The mosquito has four life stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Some species of mosquito can complete their life cycle (egg to adult) in as little as eight to 10 days, so it’s important to be vigilant about removing sources where they can breed.
Mosquitoes can breed in very little water, so be sure to empty or change standing water from containers such as flower pots, pet dishes, and bird baths. Mosquitoes seek protection in cool, shady places. Properly pruning your landscape shrubs and plants can help keep them away if they don’t have fewer places to hide.
Why They’re a Problem
A mosquito bite is not fun. You’re itchy and irritated for several days, or worse, contract a mosquito-borne disease.
In a 2018 report, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that disease cases from mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas in United States had tripled from 2004-2016.
Mosquitoes can transmit pathogens such as:
- West Nile Virus
- Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus
- Zika Virus
- Heartworm
How We Treat for Mosquitoes
The good news is that our mosquito treatment is safe for kids, pets, and plants. We first target where mosquitoes typically hide, such as shrubberies, low hanging branches, and flower beds (except for pollenating flowers). Our treatment plan will create a perimeter around your property (based on available foliage) to keep new mosquitoes out!
