How We Treat for Mosquitoes

Bobby Leon, owner of Akita Pest Control, reviews how our mosquito treatment is applied, uses for the application, and equipment we use to apply the mosquito treatment.

Reclaim Your Yard With a Safe & Effective Mosquito Treatment

Regular mosquito treatments for your yard will help combat Zika, West Nile, Chikungunya, and other mosquito-borne viruses.

How does mosquito treatment work?

We first target where mosquitoes typically hide, such as shrubberies, low hanging branches, and flower beds (except for pollenating flowers). Our treatment plan will create a perimeter around your property (based on available foliage) to keep new mosquitoes out!

Your technician will first conduct a thorough property inspection and identify the kind of mosquitoes causing problems. Once the inspection and identification are complete, your technician will prepare a mosquito treatment plan that provides recommendations and assistance for both source reduction and necessary chemical product use.

Are mosquito treatments safe?

Our mosquito treatment is safe for kids, pets, and plants. You will always know up front what the treatment plan is and what is going to be applied in or around your property before any work begins.

Mosquito Treatment FAQs

What if it rains after my yard has been treated for mosquitoes?

As long as your yard has had adequate time to dry after the application of your treatment (approximately 30 minutes), rain should not impact the effectiveness of your service. The products we use are designed for outdoor use. However, frequent, heavy rains and UV rays can cause it to break down faster.

We won’t apply the treatment when it’s raining, but can soon thereafter.

How long do I have to wait before walking in a treated area?

The treatment barrier needs to be completely dry, so we recommend a minimum of 30-45 minutes.

Will the mosquito treatment affect a fish pond or swimming pool?

Pyrethroids are hazardous to fish. As a result, our technicians are trained to avoid fish ponds when applying mosquito treatment. While the application will not affect swimming pools, our technicians take measures not to spray treatment into pool water.

How long does a mosquito treatment last?

East treatment lasts about 21 days, at which time, our team will be scheduled to treat your yard again.

Do you treat the grass?

Not usually. Our goal is to see out “hot spots” where mosquitoes are most likely resting. The most common areas include: Underside of leaves, underneath a deck, or in damp, shady areas of the yard.

Is the treatment effective against other pests?

Yes! The treatment is also effective against fleas and ticks.

“I love Akita’s service, prices are very fair, the staff is amazing! I work in property management and we use Akita for all of our properties and I use them for my own personal home…I would recommend Akita to everyone, they are definitely a caring company and you do not feel like you are “just a number.”

What You Can Do To Reduce Mosquito Numbers

Here are a few steps you can take to reduce the number of mosquitoes on your property.

  • Mosquitoes can breed in very little water, so be sure to get rid of any standing water (eg, children’s toys and play-structures, tarps, bird baths).
  • Mosquitoes seek protection in cool, shady places. Properly pruning your landscape shrubs and plants can help keep them away if they don’t have anywhere to hide.
  • Invest in mosquito-repelling plants. Most insect-repelling plants do so with their natural fragrances. Here are a few options: Lavender, Marigold, Lemongrass, Catmint, Rosemary, Basil, and Bee Balm.
