How We Treat for Mosquitoes
First, your technician will conduct a thorough property inspection to identify the specific type of mosquitoes causing problems. We then prepare a customized treatment plan that targets “hot spots” where mosquitoes typically rest and hide, such as shrubberies, the underside of leaves, low-hanging branches, underneath decks, and damp, shady flower beds.
Our technicians are specially trained to avoid pollinating flowers to protect beneficial insects, while successfully creating a perimeter around your property’s foliage to keep new mosquitoes out.
The Dangers of Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes do more than ruin summer evenings with itchy welts. As blood-feeding pests, they are notorious disease vectors that pose serious health risks:
- Human Health: Regular treatments for your yard will help combat dangerous mosquito-borne viruses like Zika, West Nile, and Chikungunya.
- Pet Safety: Mosquitoes can also transmit deadly parasites, such as heartworms, to dogs and cats.
While eliminating standing water is an essential mosquito prevention step, professional mosquito control provides the most reliable defense against these dangerous pests.

Mosquito Treatment FAQs
- How long does a mosquito treatment last?
-
Each treatment lasts about 21 days. After that period, our team will be scheduled to treat your yard again to ensure continuous protection.
- Will the mosquito treatment affect a fish pond or swimming pool?
-
The products we use (pyrethroids) are hazardous to fish. Because of this, our technicians are carefully trained to avoid fish ponds during the application.
The application will not affect swimming pools, but our technicians will still take measures to avoid spraying treatment directly into the pool water.
- What if it rains after my yard has been treated?
-
As long as the treatment has had adequate time to dry (a minimum of 30-45 minutes), rain should not impact the effectiveness of your service.
The products we use are designed for outdoor use, though frequent, heavy rains and UV rays can cause them to break down faster. We won’t apply the treatment while it is raining, but we can do so shortly after.
- When is mosquito season?
-
In Pennsylvania, mosquito season usually kicks off in early spring when temperatures consistently reach 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
It typically lasts through the summer and into autumn, only ending when the first hard frost kills off the adult population.
- What do mosquito larvae look like?
-
Mosquitoes can breed in very little water. The larvae look like tiny, wriggling worms floating just below the surface of stagnant water.
To stop them from maturing, be sure to get rid of any standing water inside children’s toys, tarps, and bird baths.
- How long does a mosquito live?
-
The lifespan of a mosquito depends on its species and environmental conditions. Generally, adult females (the ones that bite) live for two to four weeks.
During this time, a single female can lay hundreds of eggs, quickly escalating a minor nuisance into a full-blown infestation.
- Why do mosquito bites itch?
-
When a female mosquito bites you to feed on your blood, she injects a small amount of her saliva, which contains a natural anticoagulant.
Your body recognizes this saliva as a foreign substance and triggers an immune response, releasing histamine to the bite area. It is this histamine that causes the familiar red, swollen, and itchy bump.
What You Can Do To Reduce Mosquito Numbers
Here are a few steps you can take to reduce the number of mosquitoes on your property.
- Mosquitoes can breed in very little water, so be sure to get rid of any standing water (eg, children’s toys and play-structures, tarps, bird baths).
- Mosquitoes seek protection in cool, shady places. Properly pruning your landscape shrubs and plants can help keep them away if they don’t have anywhere to hide.
- Invest in mosquito-repelling plants. Most insect-repelling plants do so with their natural fragrances. Here are a few options: Lavender, Marigold, Lemongrass, Catmint, Rosemary, Basil, and Bee Balm.
